At Shaw + Shaw, we look for the stories behind the spreadsheets. We take the time to get to know each client so we can understand each unique tax situation. Our family-owned practice is managed by father and son CPA partners and supported by a team of skilled and personable tax professionals. We offer a full range of year-round tax planning and compliance services for individuals and small businesses.
As our clients can attest, our office is a unique and warm environment. We encourage questions and welcome open dialogue. We work long hours, especially between January and April, but it’s not uncommon to see a client pop in for a chat or enjoy a sip of whiskey late in the day. We are not your typical CPA firm. We help to decipher and demystify the tax process—and we try to have some fun along the way.
About The Partners
In 1980, Don Shaw emigrated to Marin County from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Anxious to set the stage for his family who would soon follow him, he opened a small tax practice in The Flood Building in San Francisco. For the past 30 years, he has built a loyal clientele, many of whom have become close friends.
In 1988, Don’s son Michael took his first accounting class and knew he would follow in his father’s footsteps. After earning a BS in Accounting, an MS in Taxation and cutting his teeth at Bay Area powerhouse firm, Burr Pilger Mayer, he decided to join the family business. Today, Don and Michael are partners, and many of Michael’s clients are the sons and daughters of Don’s longstanding clients. It’s a multi-generational business and one that often feels more like family.
